Working Out While Wearing Hair Extensions

One of the major dilemmas for us black women is wearing a weave and working out. Typically, black hair is not washed everyday, especially since we generally apply perms, dyes and other products that tend to weaken the natural state of our hair. Working out can become problematic for women who wear hair extensions as we sweat between the tracks and are not able to wash our extensions after every work out.

It is never a good idea to forgo working out in the gym to preserve hair extensions as we should all try to incorporate some aspects of a work out in our daily regimen. Braiding the hair extensions in a ponytail and wearing it in a bun will preserve the curl patterns of the hair but there is still the issue of sweating in between those cornrows.

We are advised to stay away from alcohol based products as they will dry out our hair extensions, while this is true, a good work around for the issue of working out in the gym and ridding oneself of the problem with sweating, is to use an alcohol based swab to wipe in between the cornrows themselves. This can be accomplished by separating each track and dabbing the swab between each row and then using a dry shampoo on the scalp. Be mindful not to apply either to your extensions, this is a technique to rid yourself of the odor that can be acquired from sweating during work-outs and not having the option of getting a good thorough wash after each work-out.

The Multi-Billion Dollar Industry

The hair industry is a multi-billion dollar a year industry and about 90 percent of its loyal client base is made up of black women. In spite of this fact, that black women make up such a staggering amount of those that use hair extensions the business aspect itself is dominated by Asians. For years Koreans have owned and operated the business of supplying hair extensions to black women. Which begs the question, if black women are the primary users of these products, how come black women aren’t directly involved in the business of supplying it to themselves?
Recently, a few black women have decided to make their mark in the hair industry and have started directly sourcing and importing high-end hair extensions from India, Cambodia, Brazil and other countries. These visionary women are intent on turning this into a true “used by us, supplied by us” kind of industry. One of these pioneering women is London Banks, the founder of London’s Luxury Hair Collection. She recently launched a high-end luxury hair extension line that offers top quality, long-lasting Malaysian, Brazilian and Indian hair to women all over.
The company’s mission is “to provide the finest hair extensions available in the world to the discerning customer, focusing on the utmost in care and service possible, all while claiming Royalty as a birthright!” With African Americans having a spending power expected to reach $1.1 Trillion dollars, it’s rather distressing that only 6 cents of each dollar is spent on other black owned businesses. The company also offers distributorship opportunities to business-minded women who would like to venture into this industry but who do not have the capital or the know-how to go source these products overseas by themselves. This way, we can all support one another and financially build up ourselves and our own community. Bad Hair Day

There's a difference between having a bad hair day and making a bad hair decision. Every woman has a bad hair day. In fact, according to a recent poll of two thousand women, the average woman claims a bad hair day two to three times per week. That’s over a hundred bad hair days per year!
From frizzy, out of control waves, to limp, lifeless manes, bad hair days can strike at any time. Afternoons in the sun with high temperatures or high humidity can damage your hair, as can chlorinated water in a swimming pool or using the wrong hair care products.
Mark Hill, hairdresser to the stars, said: “It is incredible the impact bad hair can have on the day ahead. Women feel like entirely different people when their hair won’t behave. Having flat, unmanageable tresses can make women feel tired, grumpy and less confident.”
Bad hair days, however frequently they occur, can still be fixed relatively quickly and easily; use styling cream to fix your curls back in place, use a dryer sheet on static covered dry hair to prevent it sticking together, add some accessories to hide the worst, or try some hair extensions to add a new length and fullness.

All About Lace Front Closures

When your natural hair is damaged – dry, brittle and unhealthy – due to over processing, when you have had enough of trying to blend your expensive hair extensions with your natural hair, or you wish to part and style your hair in any way you want, whilst keeping a natural appearance, then a lace front closure may be just what you are looking for.
The invention of closures heralded one of the single most revolutionary techniques in hair weaving history.
Frontals are formed in with weft to enclose a sew-in from one side of the front hairline to the other – it is for this reason they have the name frontals. They assist in creating the most natural appearing full head weave or are simply used to produce a more affordable lace wig.
The phrase Frontal-Closure relates to the combination of both. What this means is that it is made in the same way as a closure with a thin skin all around the perimeter but also has the added benefit of a frontal, improving the appearance of the front hair line.
Lace Front Closures are worn with your weave and give the impression of a beautifully natural looking hairline, creating a more enhanced, fuller look to your hair.
